Hello there, Beauties!! With December right around the corner, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite things that I can’t do without during the colder months, as well as some new things I’m testing out that seem ideal for these brisk days.
I have an extreme love/hate relationship with the winter. I live in an area where the chance of snow is always imminent this time of year, and I despise the snow. I hate being cold too, so winter is just a hot mess for me. However, I love the fashion of winter. Scarves and sweaters and tall boots bring me so much joy when the cold has me so sad.
Here are some of the things I can’t survive the cold winter months without.
As soon as the weather goes from warm to cold, I break out my tall riding boots. The pair shown above are by Style & Co., which you can get at Macy’s. I was able to get this pair on Black Friday for only $20, which was a great deal since they are regularly $69.50. I adore tall boots because they go with just about everything. I wear them with everything from dresses to jeans. Plus, they keep my feet warm, which is key once it gets frigid outside.
The next thing I must have during the colder months are boot socks. The ones shown above are from Old Navy, and they are some of my faves. They’re tall enough to wear with my riding boots and keep my feet nice and toasty. I love that they are thick without feeling weird on my feet. Old Navy has a lot of great designs for boot socks as well as trouser socks that are designed to keep your toes warm. Another place that I get my boot socks from is Ross. They always have great designs and textures for a really affordable price.
I love a good peacoat in the winter. They’re warm without being super bulky. I love that you can dress them up or dress them down. The one above is from Nordstrom, but you can find great ones that are reasonably priced at all sorts of stores, so I’d definitely suggest doing your research and find something you love that isn’t going to break the bank.
Of course you can’t make it through a northern winter without a good hat, scarf and gloves. These shown above are from Old Navy, and these are the ones I have. My scarf is pink like the gloves and hat, of course. I love the half gloves, half mittens situation for winter because I feel like I have options.
Body Butters are KEY to my winter survival. I have dry skin year round, but it’s extra dry and flaky in the wintertime, so I need as much moisture to tough my skin as possible. I’m not into body oils or anything like that, so body butters are the next best thing for me. I’ve tried so many that I could do an entire post about them. The ones from The Body Shop are ones that I’ve discovered recently that actually hydrate my skin for the entire day. I’ve tried others that work initially, but evaporate by the middle of the day, so I end up having to reapply or be ashy. And since being ashy is never an option, I use these. The ones shown above are my faves; Shea Butter, Mango and Strawberry. I buy mine from Ulta since they’re almost always on sale there. These are definitely Regular Girl Approved.
As for makeup, I don’t necessarily have specific winter products. I just wear my usual things. However, I do take my skincare to a new level because my face gets more dry once the weather changes.
Here’s what I’m using currently to keep the moisture in my face.
I recently discovered the Acure Moroccan Argan Oil and I’ve really been into it. I would typically use a lighter oil for my face in the summer, but this is perfect for this time of year. I feel like it gives my skin the perfect amount of hydration and it hasn’t broken me out or anything. The oil can be used on your face and body, as well as in your hair, and it doesn’t have a super strong fragrance or anything. The best thing is that is absorbs quickly into the skin without making my face feel heavy or greasy. Since it is a more heavy oil, I only use it at night, but I wake up and my skin still feels great. I picked mine up at my local Harris Teeter grocery store, but I know you can also get it at Target for $9.99.
Another moisturizing product I’m using at night is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. This hydrating cream can be used on the face as well as the body. I don’t find it very hydrating for the body, but it’s awesome for the face. I’m into it for sure.
I can’t stand for my face to feel dry and tight, especially in the winter, so a good daytime moisturizer is just as important as a great nighttime one. For my daytime moisturizer, I’m currently using the Derma-E Vitamin C Renewing Moisturizer.I’m still testing this, but find it hydrating enough for daytime so far. I like that it supports collagen health since I’m knocking on the door of 40 and it’s time to start preventative maintenance as it were. So far, so good with this. I’ll have a review up on it in a few weeks.
These are my current Winter Essentials. Let me know in the comments below what products you can’t do without when it gets cold outside.
Until next time, Beauties!! xoxo
