Let’s Talk About It: Drama Channels and Why We Love Them

Good day, Beauties! Today, I wanted to sit down with y’all and have a little chat about drama channels and why they’re so popular in my humble opinion.

Whether you love them or hate them, beauty drama channels are most definitely a thing that are growing in popularity. I definitely have a few that I’m subscribed to and watch faithfully. As I’m watching one in particular last night, I was inspired to write this post to discuss my theories on why they are so popular. If you aren’t into drama channels, this post might not be for you.

Okay so, I first got into watching drama channels after hearing some of the bigger YouTubers I’m subscribed to going off in videos about them. That sparked my curiosity, so I dug through the vast amount of posts until I found one that appealed to me. I ended up subscribing to this person and haven’t looked back. Now, I personally am not big into drama in my personal life, but find it….interesting, for lack of a better term, to see what antics are underway in the beauty community especially.

As someone that used to write about celebrity gossip for quite a while, I definitely know that drama sells. The more juicy the story, the more clicks, reads and views you’re gonna get. That’s just the nature of the beast. In a world full of reality television and TMZ, drama has been made an almost expected part of our entertainment. So, why wouldn’t people take that concept and apply it to the beauty community? Drama is drama. All that ever changes are the individuals named.

Drama channels that discuss the beauty community are popular because they show the ‘real’ side to these Influencers and brands. What I mean by that is, hearing that these people that are seemingly so perfected and gorgeous are actually just as flawed as the rest of us. These beauty gurus are just as messy as everyone else, which humanizes them for a lot of people.

Another reason that I think drama channels are growing in popularity is word of mouth. Think about it for a second. I just told you guys that I didn’t even know they were a thing until I heard someone else talking about them. People complain about drama channels, but won’t stop watching and talking about them, which just increases their popularity. See what I’m saying here? If you don’t like them, stop talking about them. Plain and simple.

Am I saying that drama channels are a great thing? Not necessarily. I’m also not saying they’re the worst thing to ever happen to the world either. Some of these drama channels do the absolute most with their commentary and click bait titles. That’s a fact. However, some of them simply discuss the things that they’ve heard and make it very clear that their content is for entertainment purposes only. They also tell you that what they’re saying is stuff that’s already on the internet. So, let’s consider this. If people would just keep their business, especially drama, to themselves instead of putting it online, these drama channels would have literally no content. Furthermore, a lot of Influencers, and I do mean A LOT, actually feed information about other people in the community to these drama channels for whatever reason. Again, if no one provides these individuals that create drama channels with content, they don’t have anything to talk about. One plus one is still, and will always be, two, y’all.

I could go on forever about this, but I’m just going to end on that note. At the end of the day, I’m not telling you to watch drama channels or not to watch them. You have the awesome ability to control what content you choose to ingest. Choose wisely, but don’t judge those that create what you’re not into.

Let me know if you have any drama channels you watch, as well as your thoughts on the whole drama channel situation.I’d love to hear your interpretation.

Until next time, Beauties!! xoxo
