#TRGR Battle of the Mascaras

makeup_battle

In today’s battle, we’re going to talk about one of my favorite beauty products, mascara. I will be discussing four mascaras, two drugstore and two high end, and which I think is the best out of all four. So, now that that’s out of the way, let the battle begin!!

Here are today’s participants (from left to right): Lancome Monsieur Big, Essence Lash Princess, Urban Decay Troublemaker, and L’Oreal Lash Paradise. All four are the same color, black, and none are waterproof. I’ve worn all four of these, although two are newer to my collection, and definitely have some thoughts on them all.

The Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara: $25

This is the first Lancome mascara I have tried, and I must say I’ve been enjoying it so far. The formula isn’t one of those super wet ones that start to make your lashes clumpy after you start to layer it. I haven’t experienced any flaking or smudging throughout the day, and it adds the volume and length I’m looking for in a mascara. The bushy wand really gets in there and grabs each lash, giving them intense lift and curl. All in all, I would definitely recommend this one if you’re looking for that perfect balance between every day lashes and dramatic vibes.

The Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara: $4.99

Yes, you read that price correctly. This cult classic is only$4.99!! I first heard about this mascara on The Tube (YouTube), and was a little skeptical when I saw the price. I haven’t always had great experiences with inexpensive mascaras. I must say that this one surprised me. The wand isn’t as bushy and full as the Monsieur Big mascara’s, but it definitely will give you a similar effect. I would say, however, that the Lash Princess separates the lashes a little bit more, making each individual lash look longer and more full. There are tons of variations of the Lash Princess in the collection, but this one with the green label is my favorite. Again, the price though! It’s definitely worth giving a try, especially because it stays true to form all day just as much as my higher end mascaras do. Now, the formula is a little watery at first, so you should definitely open it once and then let it sit for about a week without using it. Once the air gets in there and dries it out a tad, it’s awesomesauce.

The Urban Decay Troublemaker: $24

This is the newest mascara to my collection and, although I haven’t been testing it as long as I have the others we are discussing today, I definitely have some thoughts to share. First of all, I love that the formula isn’t as wet as Urban Decay’s Perversion mascara. I despise that one (don’t kill me if it’s your fave!). For whatever reason, it just instantly clumps on me upon first application. The Troublemaker, however, doesn’t do that to me at all. The drier formula applies way better on my lashes than the aforementioned one. When you first apply it, your lashes definitely appear more voluminous and full. However, as time goes by, I definitely saw my lashes start to droop, for lack of a better term. The volume I had at hour one was definitely more impressive than it was by hour four. I will say, it didn’t get clumpy or flaky, which is always a good thing, but the end result just wasn’t impressive enough for me to give this one the ultimate stamp of approval, especially for the price.

The L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara: $9.99

When this mascara released earlier this summer, the internet went crazy, and for good reason. It’s been called a dupe for the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, but I have never used it, so I cannot attest to their similarities. What I can verify, however, is that this mascara is pretty much everything. Now, L’Oreal has always pretty much hit it out of the park with their Voluminous mascara line. That Carbon Black Voluminous mascara?! EVERYTHING!!!! Back to Lash Paradise. It gives your lashes volume, length and stays in place all day long without smudging and flaking all over your face. The price is pretty much in line with most drugstore mascaras these days, but you can always find it on sale at the drugstore. Listen, I love this one so much that I already have two backups of it. That’s how real the love is over here.

Alright guys, can you guess who the winner is of today’s  Battle of the Mascaras? Clearly, the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise is my favorite of the four, but the Lancome Monsieur Big is coming in at a close second, maybe even tied. The only one I’m not quite sure about my feelings on is the Urban Decay Troublemaker. I will try layering it with other mascaras and see if that motivates me to hold onto it.

Have you guys tried any of these mascaras? If so, what are your thoughts? Or, tell me your holy grail mascara and maybe it will end up in the next battle!!
